Are you hiding in your business?
Last month I photographed someone very special, someone who allowed me to see through her. She was 100% all in, 100% open with me. This is what I strive for in every session.
But this session almost didn’t happen. Crazy, right?
The personal branding session that was most personal. The open, raw beauty. The honesty. I almost didn’t get to witness any of it. And she almost didn’t get to see the results.
The thing about upleveling? It can be scary. If it’s not a little scary, you’re not doing it right, not stretching yourself or your business!
I heard a quote either yesterday or today from Marissa Mayer. She’s the CEO at Yahoo and she makes the news every so often for things I don’t agree with most of the time. But this quote? I like it.

When presented with a personal branding photo session, I often see resistance. Whether the client in front of me is currently making 15K a year or 150K or 500K doesn’t matter. It strikes everyone. When you put yourself ‘out there’ with a collection of photos that truly show you, you’re putting your core out there for scrutiny. You are putting everything you believe on the line.
Postponing photos that show who you are, what you stand for, why you work the way you do… these require thought. Showing them means you’re allowing others to see those thoughts and dreams and desires. Once they’re out there, there aren’t any more excuses.
It’s easy to hide behind your computer. There’s always a coaching call to make, a client emergency to tend, a program upgrade to build. But you can’t hide forever when you want more success. Sooner or later, it will be time to step out and be seen.
