What’s in a name? I see Buzzfeed articles about the most popular names in the country, the peaks of the popularity of names, anything to make a headline on Facebook. When naming this business, I didn’t want to choose a random name like our other (wedding and family portraits) business. I chose my own name, Britney Gardner. I’m photographing women. I’m giving women a way to empower themselves and get back to place they once knew but lost in the regular, everyday chaos of life. I’m a woman just like you and I believe there’s power in a name.
But naming this genre of photography has been tough! The woman that inspired me to photograph women like this calls it glamour. I truly hate that name. All that comes to mind when I see those words are Aquanet hair, soft focus and pastel light beams that may as well be light sabers. Cheap mall portraits are NOT what I want you to think when you receive your images. And yet… the original meaning of glamour is one that I can get behind.
noun1.the quality of fascinating, alluring, or attracting, especially by a combination of charm and goodlooks.2.excitement, adventure, and unusual activity: the glamour of being an explorer.3.magic or enchantment; spell; witchery.
